Appointment of Executive Director for West Kowloon Cultural District Authority

The Board of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA) today (3 June 2009) announced the appointment of Mr Angus Cheng as Executive Director (Project Delivery). As Executive Director, Mr Cheng will be chiefly responsible for the planning and development of the West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD), working directly under the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), who is currently being recruited. Mr Cheng will assist the Board in the Authority's day to day operations before the CEO assumes the position.

Mr Cheng's appointment marks the first in the Authority's intensive recruitment drive, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2009.

The top-tier staff to be recruited in the coming months include the Authority's CEO, five other executive directors responsible for museums, performing arts, marketing and communications, finance, and human resources, as well as a Legal Counsel and an Internal Auditor.

"Mr Cheng brings more than 20 years of experience and expertise participating in major development projects. Before joining the Authority, he held managerial positions in Goldman Sachs (Asia) L.L.C, Walt Disney Imagineering Hong Kong, Euro Disney, MTRC, Sino Land Company Ltd., and Bouygues/ Dragages et Travaux Publics. His primary role will be to assist the formulation of the Development Plan, and he will be intimately involved in the public engagement process which will help shape the WKCD development blueprint," the Authority's spokesman said.

On 25 May 2009, the Board separately announced that it had completed the review on the future organisational structure and manpower needs of the Authority, and recruitment of the CEO and other senior executives would commence soon through an open process. The CEO should have an arts and culture background and have past experience in senior management positions. The incoming CEO should also have experience in planning and management of major development projects, as well as excellent leadership and organisation abilities.
